My name is Charles (Charlie) Cathey. I have been an intellectual property attorney since 2010. I have provided IP counseling and patent prosecution services for clients ranging in size from a few people to large publicly held companies. Additionally, I have provided IP counseling to facilitate licensing, acquisitions, sales, funding of startups, an initial public offering, and SEC filings for a public company. Throughout my career, I have drafted and prosecuted patent applications, performed freedom to operate searches, prepared validity opinions, and assisted with patent litigations.

I have provided IP counseling and/or patent services in the fields of, e.g., virtual reality, augmented reality, audio processing, cameras, displays, medical devices, software, mechanical, semiconductors, computer systems, optics, lasers, cryptography, and alternative energy. 

Prior to founding my the Law Office of Charles Cathey, PLLC, I spent 13 years working at several large Silicon Valley law firms, worked as a physics engineer at a Defense company, and served as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army.
